Mr. Valderrama graduated from Lake Superior State University with Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics, while being captain of the university’s NCAA Division II Tennis Team. He then attended the University of North Florida to study for a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with concentration in Coastal and Port Engineering, while working as a graduate research assistant.

As a graduate student at the University of North Florida, Mr. Valderrama’s research involved wave energy conversion. He developed a wave energy converter that uses induction for energy conversion and presented it in the 2020 and 2021 Marine Energy Collegiate Competition. The design was granted the MacGyver award in the 2021 competition.

Since joining Olsen Associates, Inc. in 2021, Mr. Valderrama has assisted with designing and monitoring beach projects, developing technical reports for current projects, construction management, and utilizing numerical models for coastal analysis. Specific example project experience includes analyzing the ongoing effects of renourishment and sand bypassing at Port Canaveral, Brevard County, FL, assisting with construction management in Longboat Key, FL, and assisting with the design of a private beach in The Bahamas.
